An employee from the City of Salina was pronounced dead on Tuesday.
According to the Salina Fire Department (SFD) on August 4 just before noon, firefighters were dispatched to Oakdale Park for the report of a water rescue involving the employee.
The report stated that a zero-turn lawnmower was being operated and had been found in the river, with a person possibly trapped beneath it.
Upon arrival, SFD crews found that the employee had been extricated from beneath the mower and removed from the river by officers with the Salina Police Department.
SFD personnel immediately began advanced life support measures at the scene.
The individual was transported to Salina Regional Health Center, where they were ultimately pronounced deceased.
"The City of Salina extends its deepest condolences to the family, friends, and co-workers of those affected by this incident," said SFD. "We also recognize the seriousness of this event and the impact it has on everyone involved."
