Red hot Coyote WBB looks to continue streak this week hosting York Wednesday, at Saint Mary Saturday

The Coyotes play York and Saint Mary in a pair of Kansas Conference games this week - their last two before the Christmas break.

WEDNESDAY'S GAME

THE SERIES

  1. The Coyotes have won eight in a row and 16 of the last 17 against York. They won 75-64 in York, Neb. last January and 86-65 last February in Salina and have an 18-3 advantage in the series since 2005.
  2. KWU lost both games to Saint Mary last season that ended an eight-game winning streak. The Spires won 59-55 last December in Salina and 74-69 last February in Leavenworth. The Coyotes lead the series 25-11 since 2005.

KANSAS WESLEYAN AT A GLANCE

  1. The Coyotes upped their winning streak to seven games last week with victories over Sterling (78-71) in Mabee Arena and Friends (78-65) in Wichita. Huge fourth quarters paved the way both times. They outscored Sterling 24-11 in the final 10 minutes and did the same thing against Friends outscoring the Falcons 26-13.
  2. Angel Lee and LaMyah Ricks scored 16 apiece and Odessa Ozuna had 13 against Sterling. Ricks had 20 points and Lee 16 while Jocelyn Hall had eight points and eight rebounds off the bench against Friends.
  3. Ricks leads the team in scoring (13.9) followed by Jill Stephens (11.5) and Lee (9.9). KWU averages 77.2 points, allows 63.4 and is outrebounding the opposition by 4.8 per game.

YORK AT A GLANCE

  1. The Panthers have lost seven consecutive games including a 74-40 setback against Tabor last Saturday in York. They lost to Bethany 60-58 last Wednesday also in York. The lone victory was over Oklahoma Panhandle State 63-61 in the season opener.
  2. Junior center Destiny Shepherd is the leading scorer (10.3). Senior forward Briney Schroer is next (9.3) and is the leading rebounder (6.1).
  3. York averages 56.5 points, shoots 26.5 percent from the 3-point arc, is being outrebounded by nearly seven per game and averages 18 turnovers. The Panthers allow 65.8 points.

SAINT MARY AT A GLANCE

  1. After starting the season 1-4 the Spires had won five of six entering their game Wednesday at Avila. They defeated Evangel 64-59 last Wednesday in Springfield, Mo. and walloped McPherson 82-46 Saturday in Leavenworth.
  2. Senior guard Alanis Delgado averages a team-best 16.2 points. Sophomore guard Addison Schletzbaum is next at 9.8 and is the leading rebounder at 7.4. Delgado is 31 of 83 (37.3 percent) from long distance.
  3. Saint Mary averages 69.6 points and allows 68. The Spires are shooting 38 percent overall and average 18 turnovers while forcing 13.
