Volunteers sought for Fall Fix-Up

Fall Fix-Up is a few weeks away and The Friends of the River needs your help.

The organization seeks volunteers for the annual community event, which is scheduled for 8 a.m.-noon on Oct. 9.

Volunteers will meet at their worksites, and are asked to wear facemasks and bring their own gloves. Social distancing will be manditory. Tools will be provided, according to information on The Friends of the River Facebook page. Children ages 12 and under need to be accompanied by an adult.

There are a variety of projects with which to help during this year's event. Those projects include the following.

Ashby House
Painting at the shelter, cleaning up flowerbeds, and removing debris and trash from properties. Meet at 204 S. Eighth Street.

Community Housing Development Organization
Put new siding on a house, indoor painting, and yard work. Meet at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and N. Ninth Street.

City of Salina
Putting medallions on storm drains about trash in the water ways. Meet in the parking lot of The Temple, 336 S. Santa Fe Avenue.

North Town
Clean the landscaping at Five-Corners. Meet at Five-Corners, N. Ninth Street and N. Broadway Boulevard.

Homes on N. Ninth Street
Scrape, paint, and do yardwork. Meet at the corner of Hamilton Avenue and N. Ninth Street.

Old Smoky Hill River channel
Pick up trash near the Smoky Hill River next to the YMCA. Meet in the parking lot of the YMCA, 570 YMCA Drive.

Salina Food Bank
Add mulch to the garden, do yard work, and plant landscaping. Meet at 255 S. Chicago Street.

Salina Rescue Mission
Paint, do yard maintenance, move furniture. Meet at 1716 Summers Road.

The Temple
Paint rooms and clean the theater. Enter through the red door on the north side of the building, 336 S. Santa Fe Avenue.

Additionally, the City of Salina has announced free residential trash disposal for all Saline County residents at the Salina Municipal Solid Waste Landfill from 8 a.m.-2 p.m. on Oct. 9. The landfill is located at 4292 S. Burma Road.

Customers must have Saline County license plates on their vehicles for free disposal. Vehicles from other counties will be required to pay normal tipping fees. Commercial waste haulers will be given priority (standard rates apply).

Additionally, the City of Salina is scheduled to offer free mulch at the south end of the Municipal Golf Course parking lot from 8-10 a.m. Oct. 9. The city will provide a loader to help load mulch into vehicles, according to information from The Friends of the River.
