Chapman Police Department

On Monday September 16 the Chapman Police Department received several reports that numerous vehicle burglaries occurred, and valuables were taken in the overnight hours. A vehicle was also reported stolen that night.

One of the tools used in the investigation was the new LPR (License Plate Reader) system that the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office placed within the city limits.

With the use of the LPR system, the stolen vehicle was seen entering Junction City, but never left Junction City Police Department was notified and a short time later, the vehicle was located by Junction City Police Officers.
During the investigation using the LPR system, other valuable information was located in connection to these crimes.

The early indications into this investigation, we feel that these crimes were not committed by anyone local. We want to try and clear up any rumors that may be circulating on social media. This is still an ongoing investigation. With the assistance of Junction City Police Department, Riley County Police Department, Topeka Police Department and the Dickinson County Sheriff's Office, we are doing our due diligence with this investigation and following up on all leads that we receive.
