Bauer promoted, to lead KHP Training Academy

A local Kansas Highway Patrol (KHP) officer has been promoted and will now oversee the KHP Training Academy.

In a media release on the Kansas Highway Patrol Facebook page, KHP Superintendent Herman T. Jones announced Wednesday that Lieutenant Christopher Bauer has been promoted to captain and will now oversee Troop J, the KHP Training Academy.

Bauer graduated from the academy in 2000. As a trooper, he was assigned to Troop C in McPherson County. In January 2014, he transferred to the KHP's Breath Alcohol Unit. He was promoted to lieutenant in 2017, and has served as the Breath Alcohol Unit and administrative lieutenant for the KHP Training Academy.

During his career, Bauer received the Superintendent's Life Saving Award in 2015 for negotiating with a suicidal victim and preventing the victim from harm. He previously worked for the Garden City Police Department and Saline County Sheriff's Office.

Bauer is a native of St. Louis, Mo. He studied history and political science at Bethany College. Currently, he serves as the president of the USD 400 Smoky Valley Board of Education.
