LINDSBORG - Bethany College has announced the discontinuation of its Men's Wrestling program, due to low roster counts.
The institution made the announcement on Thursday, January 8 effective immediately.
Dean of Athletics, Laura Moreno stated this decision was made due to consistent low rosters over the past 6-8 years.
"The sport got to the point where it was not sustainable for Bethany," said Moreno. "We recognize that this news may be disappointing to our athletes, alumni, coaches and supporters of the wrestling program. We are incredibly grateful for the dedication, hard work, and sportsmanship of every wrestler who has been part of the program. Your contributions have shaped the athletic legacy of Bethany College, and you have our deepest respect and gratitude. I especially want recognize Coach Mitchell Houghton for his work, dedication and time to support student athletes."
The athletic department are discussing and evaluating options about what possibilities may arise, after the discontinuation of the program.
