Isabel Hernandez, 89, of Valley Center, passed away Wednesday, September 22, 2021. She was born in Salina, KS, March 9, 1932, to Ramon and Victoria Hernandez.
She was married to Lawrence Hernandez on June 23, 1951.
She was a homemaker and family were her greatest joy. Regardless of the time of day, anyone that showed up, she would always try to feed. When she made “red ones” (enchiladas), family came running to enjoy her labor of love.
When time allowed, she loved trying her hand at latch hook and cross-stitch.
She loved watching her family’s activities whether it be musical, dance or sports, you would find her in the audience supporting them. And for those family members who were lucky enough, ringing her cowbell so all could hear her pride for her kids, grandkids. and great-grandkids.
She loved dancing and her margaritas. Tables were turned later in life in that if there was a Mexican dance on New Year’s Eve, she and Larry could be found there - but only if they notified Rebecca when they returned home safely. As per her instructions “call, let it ring once, then hang up.”
Isabel is preceded in death by her parents, her brother, Jose Hernandez, a sister, Mary Camarena, and daughter-in-law, Maria Hernandez.
Those left to always remember her is her beloved husband of 70 years, Lawrence, four children, Ramona (George) Eck, Larry (Teri) Hernandez, David Hernandez, and Rebecca Biagini, 10 grandchildren and 20 great-grandchildren.
Family visitation will be Thursday, September 30, 2021, at 6 p.m. at St. Jude Church, Wichita, KS followed by the rosary at 7 :00 p.m. Funeral mass will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, October 1, 2021. A private burial will be held at a later date. The service will be livestreamed through the church website.
