In the State of Kansas if you are age 65 or older, your income (not including social security) is less than $58,040, and your home is valued at less than $350,000 you qualify for a property tax freeze.

Originally known as the Golden Years Property Tax Freeze, the Senior or Disabled Veteran Refund program grants a refund equal to the difference of the prior year property taxes paid and the current year property taxes levied.

If you meet the above qualifications, fill out form K-40SVR with your annual income tax return.

The refund of the difference in annual property taxes effectively freezes the amount of property taxes for those who continue to qualify and file.

Be aware that this is not an automatic refund or freeze, as you must file form K-40SVR with your income. Also, this does not freeze your annual valuation; it is a refund on taxes paid that effectively results in a tax freeze.

This SVR program has existed for 3 years, but fewer people are taking advantage of this than anticipated.

Saline County wants all who qualify to take advantage of this program; it does not cut into the County’s ability to provide needed services and will help seniors afford to stay in their homes

The 2026 forms will be available at the end of the year.

These forms can be found online or stop by the County Appraiser's office located at 300 West Ash Salina, Kansas 67401.
