The Kansas Department of Transportation (KDOT) was to begin a field survey on Monday for the detailed design of proposed bridge replacements in Ellsworth County.
One of the two locations being surveyed is for the bridge replacement over Union Pacific Railroad and West Spring Creek bridge, .64-mile south of Kansas Highway 140. The second location being surveyed is for the westbound and eastbound bridge replacements over Elkhorn Creek, .25-mile northeast of Kansas Highway 156.
The survey will take place on the existing highway alignment.
KDOT expects the survey to be completed by Feb. 1. Activities include the use of survey instruments on the ground to determine locations of existing features within the corridor.
A member of the survey crew will contact property owners or tenants for permission to enter private property.
Michael Lay, Professional Land Surveyor of George Butler Associates, will be in charge of this survey for KDOT.
