The Southeast of Saline girls basketball team continues to pick up steam heading into sub-state, winning their seventh straight on Monday night against the Ellinwood Lady Eagles 41-34.

This win moves SES to 15-3 overall while the Eagles fall to 9-9 on the year.

Ellinwood’s Brittany Simpson led all scorers but the depth of Southeast was once again on full display as seven different Lady Trojans contributed at least three points.

Karsyn Schlesener led the way for SES with 11 points, but it was the seven-point third quarter from Alaina Yianakopulos that allowed Southeast to pull away after being tied at 18 at halftime.

While it was by a narrow margin, the Lady Trojans once again won the turnover battle, something that has become a staple of one of the best defenses in the state.

SES will have a quick turnaround, returning to Gypsum to take on 6-10 Ellsworth on Tuesday night before capping off their regular season at Republic County next week.

With a win on Tuesday night, the Lady Trojans will secure sole possession of the league title in back-to-back seasons for the first time in over 15 years
