As the NCAA baseball season enters its final weeks, the Southeast of Saline Trojans and Ellsworth Bearcats will meet for a critical Tuesday doubleheader that could very well determine this year’s league champion.

Both teams will come into this two-game set in Ellsworth with a single league loss on their resume, each having split with the 4-2 Sacred Heart Knights.

For the 7-1 Trojans, this will be the final league action of the season, and with two wins Southeast could wrap up a fifth consecutive NCAA crown on Tuesday.

As for the 5-1 Bearcats, a sweep would put them two wins against a winless Republic County team away from taking their first league title in over a decade.

A series split would bring Sacred Heart back into the picture if the Knights can win out their final four league games against Republic County and Beloit.

Focusing on the marquis matchup, the Trojans and Bearcats have combined for an overall record of 17-5 this year, with a majority of those wins coming via mercy rule.

Both have baffled opposing lineups with stellar pitching and overwhelmed opposing arms with crushing lineups as SES comes into this set with a run differential of +111, and Ellsworth enters at +107.

First pitch of game one is scheduled for 4 pm at Ellsworth High School on Tuesday, May 3.
