Weather History for Sunday, June 21, 2020, from the National Weather Service in Wichita:

In 1953, an extremely dangerous severe thunderstorm tore through the Wichita metro area. Winds were measured at exactly 100 mph when the anemometer broke at the airport. The hail was "at least golf ball sized." The severe thunderstorm caused approximately $9 million damage.

In 1969, a short lived but strong F3 tornado hit the south side of Salina. The tornado's track was only two miles long and around 50 yards wide, but it hit the airport, severely damaged or destroyed 104 homes and seven businesses, and injured 60.
