January 30, 1960 - November 21, 2022

Steven Joe Smith, 62, of McPherson, KS, passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022, at his home. 

Steve was a supervisor at Johns Manville, McPherson and group leader at Excel Industries, Hesston.

Steve was born on January 30, 1960, in Salina, KS, the son of Billy Joe Smith, Sr. and Shirley Rose (Regier) Smith. 

He graduated from McPherson High School in 1978. 

On September 12, 1981, Steve was united in marriage to Renee Lynn Mabes at the Canton United Methodist Church.  This union was blessed with the birth of two children, Shane and Kelcie.  Renee preceded Steve in death on December 16, 2021.

Survivors include: his children Shane Smith of McPherson, KS and Kelcie (Domingo) Sanchez of Inman, KS; father Billy Joe Smith, Sr. of McPherson, KS; sister Dayna (Scott) Needham of McPherson, KS; mother-in-law Joan Christensen of McPherson, KS; sisters-in-law Jacque (Ronn) Rinker of McPherson, KS, Rhonda (Chuck) Hamby of Canton, KS, Michelle (Brantley) Unruh of Galva, KS; and Angie Smith of McPherson, KS; and many nieces, nephews, extended family, and friends.

He was preceded in death by his mother Shirley Rose Smith; wife Renee Smith; two brothers, Tracy Smith and Billy Smith, Jr.; father-in-law Ronald Mabes; stepfather-in-law Marlin Christensen; and brother-in-law Randy Mabes.

The family will receive friends from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m., Sunday, November 27, 2022, at Stockham Family Funeral Home.  The funeral service will be held at 10:00 a.m., Monday, November 28, at Canton Community Church with Pastor Mike Miller officiating.  Burial will follow at McPherson Cemetery.
