DB JADON CANADY
Q: What is Defensive Coordinator Steve Spagnuolo’s scheme for the nickelback position based on what your experience was in college?
CANADY: “I feel like for me it is different because I came from three schools. Going from Ole Miss to Oregon. (Head) Coach (Dan) Lanning, (Head) Coach (Pete) Golden, run the same very hard defense, and I am coming in there, first year, having to play right away and learn right away. So, you know I am glad I went through that to make this easier but definitely hard as well here. Not going to lie to you.”
Q: How is your relationship going so far with CB Mansoor Delane and what conversations have you guys had about stepping into bigger shoes for the second year?
CANADY: “Definitely great. We had some guys leave last year. This year is basically a whole new back end. Me and (CB Mansoor) Soor (Delane) talk a lot about the plays and hang out and eat lunch together. Still building that bond.”
Q: How have you spent the last six weeks since OTAs as far as taking what you learned there and trying to transition into camp?
CANADY: “I would say just going home and putting on weight. Doing the skills that are needed for (Defensive Coordinator) Coach (Steve) Spags (Spagnuolo), like certain type of drops or certain type of patterns. Just going home and really keying in on what Coach Spags wants from me.”
WR CYRUS ALLEN
Q: What’s it like going through such a new experience and having WR Jeff Caldwell alongside you, having a familiar face to lean on each other just through new experiences?
ALLEN: “Yeah, that’s definitely positive for me. We went to the same school at Cincinnati, so when I saw he got signed here I was happy. I was one of the first persons to congratulate him.”
Q: What’s this first couple of days been like, what stands out about the experience?
ALLEN: “They definitely were right that this is one of the hardest training camps for sure. Just getting my feet wet and understanding like the playbook and everything and just keep going for-real. That’s really it.”
Q: What’s the toughest part about grasping the playbook here?
ALLEN: “Just learning every spot, I’m a guy that tried to learn the whole playbook from like what, even the protections and everything so that’s kind of how I think so I can be available for it if my number is called.”
RB EMMETT JOHNSON
Q: You spent extra time on the jugs machine before and after practice, is that something you’ve always done or did you start doing that here?
JOHNSON: “I’ve always done it since high school. My brother’s not here, but we always do 200 catches a day, so I try to make sure I get out here early enough to catch the ball, so I have no drops.”
Q: On Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy.
JOHNSON: “Oh, he’s (Offensive Coordinator Eric Bieniemy) going to push you, man. He’s going to push you a lot. He wants the best for me at the end of the day; I’m not going to take anything personal. I pride myself on hard coaching, so I really love that he’s here. He’s pushing me to be better every single day.”
Q: It seems like they’ve given you a lot of responsibility on special teams early. What’s your take on that?
