SALINA, KAN. - Eating donuts and making arrests is the old cliche' but you can add fishing to the list.
Cops and Bobbers is looking to expand.
It's a chance for kids to fish alongside officers.
"This is a great way for the community to interact," said Sgt. Ricardo Garcia with Salina Police, "It's always great to see kids smiling."
Officer Mikayla Rix with Salina P.D. has teamed up with Lakewood Discovery Center to give kids a chance to fish with the officers. Saline County Sheriff's officers, the Kansas Highway Patrol and Wildlife and Parks is also in on the event.
And it's a success. Salina P.D. is calling the 2026 Cops and Bobbers the biggest event in the history of fishing with a cop.
Officer Rix says it was such a positive for the community, they want to expand it in 2027.
They want to purchase camping supplies and some outdoor games for the kids. And they want to add things like footballs, basketballs and soccer equipment.
If you want to help expand Cops and Bobbers, now called Fishing With A Cop, they are collecting donations.
