Items stolen from SUV; multiple vehicles have wipers up, gas caps off

Items were stolen from an SUV in an east Salina neighborhood that also saw approximately 50 vehicles with windshield wipers up and gas caps off late last week.

David James, 55, of Salina, told police that he parked his 2014 Ford Escape in his driveway in the 2500 block of Dunnwood Drive at approximately 10 p.m. Friday, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning.

At approxiamtely 6:30 a.m. Saturday, the vehicle was found with its windshield wipers up and the gas cap off. Additionally, a battery charger valued at $125 and a man's gold wedding ring valued at $3,000 were taken from inside the vehicle, Forrester said. Damage to the windshield wipers was estimated at $35.

Forrester said that approximately 50 vehicles in the neighborhood had their windshield wipers up and their gas caps off.

Residents in the area who have video surveillance that might provide information about the incidents are asked to contact the Salina Police Department, Forrester said.
