Mary Lou (Rogers) Berndt, 92, Glasco, died Monday, October 11, 2021 at the Nicol Home in Glasco, KS. She was born December 10, 1928, the third of eight children in Glasco to George and Bernice (Benson) Rogers.
Mary Lou was a 1946 graduate of Glasco High School and married William “Bill” Berndt on August 25, 1947. She then went on to business college in Wichita and ran the Glasco Lumber Yard for several years after Bill passed away on July 4, 1984.
Mary Lou was an avid cook starting at the early age of nine. She loved to make a home-cooked meal for family and friends and competed in several cooking contests over the years, bringing home many awards. She was recently highlighted in the Kansas Country Living magazine for her famous Sunshine Chicken Pie and love for cooking.
She was obsessed with Wheel of Fortune and liked to watch sports, especially football, baseball and golf. She enjoyed dancing and playing golf in her earlier years and absolutely loved clothes. Mary Lou was always classy and even when she did not leave the house, she would be dressed up with her lipstick on. She enjoyed being outside on a sunny day, looking through family pictures, and socializing with her friends.
Preceding her in death are her parents, husband Bill; daughter JoLynn Keller, and three brothers, Clarence Paul Rogers, Lawrence Hugh “Bo” Rogers and Rodney Dean Rogers.
Survivors include her children: William (Mary) Berndt, Salina; son-in-law Gaynord Keller, Glasco; Braden (Karen) Berndt, Glasco; Brett Berndt, Minneapolis; Brian (Denise) Berndt, Glasco; and Barry (Donna) Berndt, Cataula, GA; siblings, Delores Leinen, Houston, TX; Elizabeth Guiot, Wichita; Deanna Bellows, Wichita; Carroll Max Rogers, TX, and one sister-in-law, Kay Rogers, Wichita; 13 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
Memorial services will be Wednesday, November 24 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, Glasco. Burial will be in the Glasco City Cemetery.
