WADDELL, Ariz. – Kansas Wesleyan Baseball closed out its trip to Arizona and the Coach Calderone Classic on Saturday with a 9-4 win over San Diego Christian College at Canyon View High School.

The victory improves KWU's record to 2-3 as the team heads back to Kansas ahead of a trip to Waxahachie, Texas next week for a four game series with Southwestern Assemblies of God University.

The Coyotes grabbed the lead right out of the gates, scoring three times in the top of the first inning. KWU loaded the bases with no outs, then Jarrett Gable (JR/Colleyville, Texas) drove in the first run with a sacrifice fly. Haydn Brown (SR/Gardnerville, Nev.) scored on a wild pitch and Tyler Triano (JR/Hollister, Calif.) scored the third run of the inning on a throwing error by the SDCC catcher.

Wesleyan added three more in the third. Kevin Cruz (JR/Trujilo Alto, Puerto Rico) led off with a walk and Brown reached on an error which yielded the first run of the frame. Dustin Sipe (JR/Aztec, N.M.)r later walked, but a run would score for the Coyotes on a wild pitch. Yealix Lopez-Torres would drive in the third run of the inning with a sacrifice fly.

SDCC got two back in the bottom of the fourth, and two more in the fifth to make it 6-4.

Reece Bishop (SO/Colorado Springs, Colo.) homered in the sixth to extend the KWU lead, and Wesleyan added two more in the ninth on a RBI groundout by Brown and William Dryburgh (SR/St. Joseph, Mo.) scoring on a wild pitch.

KWU needed only three hits to score nine runs in the game, taking advantage of nine walks issued by SDCC pitchers and three errors. Triano, Gable and Bishop had the hits for the Coyotes.

Jansen Lublin (JR/San Diego, Calif.) went four innings in the start, striking out four, but Branden Voytko (JR/El Paso, Texas) would get the win in relief, pitching an inning and a third of hitless baseball.

KWU plays at Southwestern Assemblies on Friday and Saturday with doubleheaders both days starting at Noon in Waxahachie, Texas.
