LEAVENWORTH - Kansas Wesleyan Baseball completed a three-game sweep of the University of Saint Mary Spires with a 12-0 win on Sunday afternoon at the USM Baseball Field.
It took a little time for the Coyotes to get things going, not scoring until the third inning putting three on the board. It was a 2-out rally for the Coyotes as Tyler Favretto doubled with two outs and after Garrett Garfield was hit by a pitch, Fernando Ruvalcaba drove in two runs with a double. Carter Allen followed with a single to score Ruvalcaba.
The Coyotes added another in the fourth as Jacob Williamson singled to score Lakin Franz who had reached earlier in the inning on a fielder's choice.
Two more on the board for the Coyotes in the fifth. Allen walked, stole second base, then stole third and scored on a throwing error by the Spires for the first run. After Joe Finder walked, Blake Dale reached on an error and Franz walked to lead the bases. Eric Romero the drove in a run with a sacrifice fly to make it 6-0.
Favretto led off the sixth with a single and courtesy runner Alex Garcia then scored on Garfield's double. Garfield then scored on a double by Ruvalcaba pushing the lead to 8-0.
In the seventh, Romero singled and two batters later scored on Favretto's single.
In the ninth, the Coyotes added three more. Dale and Franz walked to start the inning. Romero followed with an RBI single. Williamson singled to load the bases and a run scored when Favretto hit into a double play. Pinch hitter Jovan Suarez then doubled to bring in the third run of the inning to make it 12-0.
Nathan Righi went eight strong innings for the Coyotes, scattering six hits while striking out nine. Justin Gilliam pitched the ninth, striking out two.
Favretto and Romero had three hits each for the Coyotes to lead the way. Ruvalcaba drove in three runs and Romero two.
