NWS: Red flag warning for Mitchell, fire weather watch for Jewell

The National Weather Service in Hastings, Neb., has issued a red flag warning and a fire weather watch for counties in our area.

The red flag warning is for 1-9 p.m. Wednesday for Mitchell County.

North winds of 15 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and humidity as low as 16 percent are expected.

A combination of strong winds, low relative humidity, and warm temperatures can contribute to extreme fire behavior. Any fires that develop will be difficult to control. Outdoor burning is not recommended. Use extreme caution if engaging in activities that could start a fire.

The fire weather watch is for Wednesday afternoon and evening for Jewell County.

Northwest winds of 20 to 25 mph with gusts up to 40 mph and humidity as low as 22 percent are expected.
