Eight head of cattle are dead after a tractor-trailer rig rolled on U.S. Highway 81 just inside Saline County early this morning.

A 2006 Peterbilt pulling a trailer carrying 32 steers and driven by Dustin Bohannon, 27, of South Haven, was southbound near milepost 160 when it left the road on the left side and oveturned, Saline County Sheriff Roger Soldan said this morning. The tractor-trailer rig is owned by H&K Cattle of Braman, Okla.

The rollover occurred at approximately 12:47 a.m. Tuesday.

According to Soldan, seven of the steers died in the rollover. Another had to be put down.

Bohannon complained of back pain, but refused to be transported to the hospital, Soldan said.

Bohannon was arrested on the following requested charges, Soldan said.

●Driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs

●Possession of methamphetamine with intent to distibute

●Possession of drug paraphernalia
