Man arrested after alleged attempted break-in at Salina motel

A Salina man was arrested after an alleged attempted break-in at a north Salina motel late Sunday night.

Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester reported this morning that officers were dispatched at approximately 11:50 p.m Sunday for the report of a robbery in progress at the Budget King Motel, 809 North Broadway. The suspect was described by the victims as a Hispanic male wearing a blue hooded sweatshirt, brown pants, and carry a brown long gun, Forrester explained. The victims advised the officers that the suspect had attempted to break into the office area of the motel, he added.

Officer arrived and located a subject, Juan Bustamante-Espinoza, 27, of Salina, wearing clothing matching the description provided, Forrester noted. Bustamante-Espinoza was taken into custody after a brief struggle in which an officer’s radio was damaged, he explained. The damage to the radio was estimated at $20, Forrester added.

According to Forrester, officers later located a gun matching the description provided by the victims and some missing hand tools that were taken from the office area in Bustamante’s vehicle and room.

Bustamante-Espinoza was arrested on the following requested charges, Forrester noted.

Aggravated burglary

Interference with law enforcement

Theft

Damage to property

Criminal use of a weapon

Battery battery of a law enforcement officer
