Late Wednesday evening, an unknown suspect bludgeoned and robbed an 18-year-old Salina resident walking through Oakdale Park.
Salina Police Department (SPD) Sgt. Kyle Tonniges said that sometime between 7 and 8 p.m., Wednesday, May 8, an unknown suspect hit the 18-year-old man on the back of the head before continuing the assault.
"The victim reported that he was walking in Oakdale Park between 7 and 8 p.m. when he was struck from behind," Tonniges said. "He was punched several times and lost consciousness. When he came to, there were some people around making sure he was okay."
Tonniges said the man didn't know who robbed him, but it occurred east of the pickleball courts on a sidewalk in Oakdale Park.
Once the victim gained consciousness, he discovered missing cash from his wallet, but the suspect had left the wallet next to him.
"I should clarify — suspect or suspects. We don't know because he did not have any description for us," Tonniges said.
SPD officers continue to investigate the crime.
Salina Post will update the story as more information becomes available.
