Kansas Wesleyan Flag Football played its first home game of the season and dominated the William Woods Owls 52-0 on Sunday afternoon at JRI Hospitality Stadium at Graves Family Sports Complex.

The victory evened KWU's record in the Kansas Conference to 1-1 while improving to 3-2 overall. William Woods, in their first season of flag football, fell to 0-2.

KWU had short fields to work with all day long as six of the nine Coyote drives started in William Woods territory. KWU's defense was also solid only allowing the Owls to cross midfield one time.

The Coyotes scored on their first drive of the game as Chihiro Iwata hit Aliyah Wood for a 26-yard touchdown pass with 9:06 left in the first quarter.

After a failed Woods drive, the Coyotes were in the end zone again as Iwata found Wood again for a 4-yard touchdown pass with 1:24 left in the first. The scoring play was set up by a leaping catch by Ciaran DeCuir at the WWU 4.

The Coyotes got the ball back at the WWU 18 and only needed two plays to score as Iwata found Jazmine Whitfield over the middle from 11 yards out and it was 19-0 with 10:40 to go in the first.

KWU grabbed the first of three interceptions on the day on the next drive as Shanya Murape picked off a pass at the WWU 36.

The Coyotes found the end zone again on the next drive as Iwata hit a diving Soriah Tafua along the sideline from 16 yards out and the PAT-1 was good giving KWU a 26-0 lead with 3:49 left in the half.

Aaliya Oliver picked off a Woods pass on the next drive, retuning it to the WWU 26 and Iwata found Whitfield again, this time from 3 yards out with 20 seconds left in the half to send KWU into the break up 32-0.

Angel Roman stopped the next William Woods drive and put points on the board for the Coyotes as she picked off a pass and returned it 38 yards for a Pick-6 putting KWU up 38-0 with 7:29 left in the third.

William Woods got into KWU territory for the only time on the next drive, driving to the KWU 30, but could not convert a first down and gave the ball back to the Coyotes.

Iwata hit Lola Randolph for an 11 yard scoring play with 10:31 left in the game as KWU continued to pull away.

KWU added one last score as Emilee Buhl found Addison Cadwell for a 6-yard scoring play with 1:36 left.

Iwata was 16 of 25 passing for 182 yards and six scores in the game. She also ran three times for 25 yards. Tafua threw one pass for 14 yards and Buhl was 1 of 5, the competition for the touchdown.

Tafua led the Coyotes with four catches for 55 yards and a score. Wood had three for 38 and two scores. Whitfield had two for 14 and two scores to lead the Coyote receivers.

Oliver had four flag pulls for the KWU defense that held William Woods to only 90 yards of total offense in the game. She added an interception.
