Police are asking people to be more vigilant while shopping after another wallet was stolen.
Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning that a 69-year-old Salina woman was shopping at Dillons, 2350 Planet Avenue, at 1 p.m. on Sunday when she received notification on her cellphone that her credit card had been used at Target, 2939 Market Place, in the amount of $1,750. She went to check out at Dillons and discovered that her wallet (valued at $20) was missing, along with all of her identification and credit cards, and $50 in cash.
The woman told police that while she was in Dillons, she was approached by a male who was asking her questions about some items he was holding. The woman believes she was distracted while someone else stole her wallet, Forrester said. Surveillance video bears that out.
Forrester said that surveillance video shows a male subject wearing a dark shirt, dark-colored hat, and blue jeans talking with the woman. Another male wearing a yellow jacket and a purple hat is seen going through the victim's purse and taking her wallet before walking away.
The woman's credit card was used at Target to purchase an Apple iPad Pro 9 (valued at $1,200) and an Apple Watch (valued at $400), Forrester said. Surveillance video from Target shows a male subject wearing a white, long-sleeve t-shirt, blue jeans, and a mask making purchases. He was then seen leaving the parking lot in an unknown make of SUV.
"We have had two other similar type incidents, one on Oct. 19 at Menards, and one on Oct. 28 at Marshalls," Forrester said. "We are encouraging people to keep their valuables in sight, and be cognizant that this type of activity has been occurring. If anyone has had similar instances occur, please contact the Salina Police Department."
