AMES, Iowa – (14/16) K-State dropped the regular season finale on Sunday at Iowa State, 85-63, at Hilton Coliseum. This was the first time this season the Wildcats have lost consecutive games.
K-State (25-6, 13-5 Big 12) was paced by seniors Temira Poindexter and Serena Sundell. Poindexter carded 17 points, while Sundell added 11 points, six rebounds, six assists and a block.
Iowa State (21-10, 12-6) was led by Audi Crooks with a game-high 36 points on 14-of-18 shooting and 10 rebounds. In her senior day, Emily Ryan finished with 17 points and 10 assists.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The first half saw the teams exchange the lead six times and were tied twice, as the Cyclones held a 35-34 lead at the break.
- The Wildcats had all nine players register at least two points in the opening half and were lead in the first half by Poindexter with 11 points including a 3-of-6 effort from beyond the arc.
- Iowa State opened the third quarter by going 6-of-6 from the field to build a 49-42 lead with 5:22 remaining in the stanza.
- The Cyclones would win the third quarter, 27-15, using a 12-0 run over a two-minute span late in the third frame to build a 62-49 advantage.
- K-State brought the margin to 11 twice with chances to cut the deficit to single digits, but Iowa State was able to answer on both occasions to move the margin to 14, 70-56, with 6:40 remaining in the fourth quarter.
- The Cyclones would close out the Wildcats with a 15-7 run.
- K-State shot 33.3 percent (23-of-69) from the field and carded a 25.0 percent effort (9-of-36) from long distance. The 36 attempts from 3-point range were a season-high for the Wildcats.
