SPD pushes back at social media comments about filing complaints

A message from the Salina Police Department that was posted today on the Salina Police Department Facebook page:

It has come to our attention that there are social media comments alleging that the Salina Police Department should not be the first point of contact regarding privacy concerns or perceived threats stemming from a list which was compiled by a local citizen. This list has garnered considerable media attention and contains information gleaned from a social media site.

It is patently false that the Salina Police Department is refusing to act on complaints filed with the department due to some sort of on-going KBI investigation. Our department is NOT forwarding or referring these complaints to another law enforcement agency for investigation.

Local police departments are the first point of contact if you feel you are a victim of a crime, including perceived threats posted on social media.

Your police department remains committed to professionally and objectively serving our community without regard to local or national politics, etc.

We continue to encourage you to contact the Salina Police Department at (785) 826-7210 if you wish to file a report regarding any incident in which you believe you are a victim.
