Agenda items

Commissioners are scheduled to consider approving an agreement with the City of Salina to broadcast county meetings. Since the city has taken over the broadcasts of meetings in room 107 of the City-County Building, county commissioners directed county staff to negotiate an agreement with the city for city staff to also record and broadcast county meetings.

According to information from the county, the city has approved the agreement, and it awaits approval by the county commission. Under the proposed agreement, the county would pay the city $500 for the first eight hours of meetings each month, with an hourly rate of $65 per hour for each 15-minute increment of meeting time in excess of eight hours.

Commissioners also are to consider approving a contract with Kaw Valley Engineering of Salina for special inspections on the construction of the new Saline County Jail/Sheriff's Office.

According to information in the county commission meeting packet, "Building codes require that certain inspections for a large project such as the Jail/Sheriff’s Office construction be performed by an independent inspector. The construction manager for the project cannot engage these professionals in order to prevent a conflict of interest. The County must contract with them separately, but sufficient funds are held within the project budget to pay this expense."

Other items on the county commission agenda for Tuesday include the following.

â—ŹConsider a bid award for a high-pressure breathing air compressor for Rural Fire District No. 2

â—ŹConsider a request from the Department of Senior Services to accept a pet assistance expansion grant from Meals On Wheels America.

â—ŹConsider awarding a bid for turnout gear for emergency management.

â—ŹConsider amending Resolution 17-2237 Burn Restrictions.

â—ŹHear County Administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes' weekly update.
