LAWRENCE, Kan. – Kansas Track and Field and Paris 2024 Olympic Team USA men's head coach Stanley Redwine has signed a four-year contract extension through the 2029 season, Director of Athletics Travis Goff announced today.

"Stanley is synonymous with excellence in the sport of track and field, both collegiately and on the global stage," Goff said. "We are thrilled to extend his leadership of our proud program, while continuing to represent our country for the biggest moments in the sport."

Redwine, who is in his 25th season at the helm for the Jayhawks, is a five-time Big 12 Coach of the Year and the 2013 USTFCCCA National Women's Coach of the Year after winning Kansas' first NCAA women's team championship during the 2013 outdoor season.

This past summer, Redwine was selected to lead the way at the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics, where he served as the head coach of Team USA's men's track and field team. The American men saw great success under Redwine, securing six gold medals and reestablishing their dominance after a challenging outing in Tokyo in 2021.

In Tokyo, the USA men's team did not win a single individual race. In Paris, under Redwine's guidance, the American men won five gold medals in the 100 meter, 400, 1,500, 110 hurdles and 400 hurdles. The men medaled in nine of 10 individual track races, which marked the most for any country since the first time all those events were part of the Olympic program in 1920.

The accomplishments in Paris didn't stop there for Redwine. Former Jayhawk Bryce Hoppel had an impressive Olympics under his collegiate head coach. He finished fourth in the 800 with a time of 1:41.67, setting a new American record and surpassing the previous mark of 1:42.34 held by Donavan Brazier. This achievement placed Hoppel as the seventh-fastest 800-meter runner in history.

"I'm grateful that Travis Goff has given me the opportunity to continue serving as the head cross country and track and field coach here at Kansas," Redwine said. "The University of Kansas and the community of Lawrence have been great to me and my family. This is truly a reflection of our coaches, staff and student-athletes, who work day-in-and-day-out to improve our cross country and track programs."

Hired on May 25, 2000, Redwine is the longest tenured head coach in the program's history, recently surpassing Hall of Fame head coach Bob Timmons, who coached the Jayhawk programs for 23 years from 1966-1988. He is also the longest tenured coach of any current KU head coach.

Redwine served as an assistant coach for Team USA at the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo. He was also the men's head coach for Team USA at the 2022 World Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Oregon, the first track and field World Championships held on U.S. soil.

In 2024, Redwine guided the Jayhawks to a multitude of NCAA All-America honors, including Clayton Simms (first team indoor and outdoor, men's pole vault), Yoveinny Mota (second team outdoor, women's 100m hurdles), Chandler Gibbens (first and second team outdoor, men's 10,000m and 5,000m), Dimitrios Pavlidis (first team outdoor, men's discus), Devin Loudermilk (first team indoor and outdoor, men's high jump), Ashton Barkdull (second team indoor, men's pole vault), Michael Joseph (second team indoor, men's 400m) and Mason Meinershagen (second team indoor and outdoor, women's pole vault).

Under Redwine, some of the greatest Kansas Track and Field athletes in history have made their mark, and at this year's Olympics, he was reunited with six current and former athletes representing various countries. Among them were Michael Joseph, Yoveinny Mota, Sharon Lokedi, Bryce Hoppel, Hussain Al Hizam and Alexandra Emilianov, who all competed under Redwine collegiately.

Redwine has been recognized as a USTFCCCA Regional Coach of the Year on four different occasions over his career, as well as the USTFCCCA Women's Outdoor National Coach of the Year in 2013. Redwine led the Jayhawks to the first KU women's National Championship in program history in 2013.

Redwine has guided various Jayhawks to Olympic caliber during his career, including but not limited to Diamond Dixon, Kyle Clemons, Andrea Geubelle and Mason Finley.
