KWU indoor track sees multiple top performances

Kansas Wesleyan indoor track saw more outstanding performances as the season continued over the weekend at the Washburn Open in Topeka.

Overall, the Coyotes saw 19 personal bests recorded, 14 KWU Top 10 performances, four new school records and two NAIA National qualifying marks hit.

Several Coyotes had outstanding performances against a large and loaded with field with athletes from all levels including NCAA Division I, Division II, Division III, NAIA and junior college.

Tabetha Deines (SR/Salina, Kan.) set a new school record in the 800m, while finishing third in the race, bested only by a pair of runners from the University of Tulsa. Deines finished with a time of 2:14.69, which is a NAIA National qualifying mark.

Kalil Murphy (FR/Hollywood, Fla.) hit the NAIA Automatic qualifying mark in the triple jump, while also breaking his own school record in the event. His jump of 14.38m earned him a fourth-place finish in the event.

Eugene Dixon (SR/Plymouth, Minn.) set a new indoor school record in the 200m, finishing with a time of 22.38 seconds. He finished 20th in the final standings of the event that had 88 participants.

Marisela Hernandez-Castro (SR/Yuba City, Calif.) also set a new school record in the women's weight throw. Her best toss of the day at exactly 14 meters set a new KWU mark, and earned her a ninth-place finish in the event.

Preston Rottinghaus (FR/Wichita, Kan.) placed seventh in the high jump open division with a best jump of 1.70m.

Stephanie Martinez (SR/Horizon City, Texas) posted an eighth-place finish in the women's mile with a time of 5:24.39, while Daniella Gaona (SO/Clifton, Texas) finished 18th with a time of 5:46.41.

The women's 4x400m relay team of Deines, Regan Rhodes (JR/Mullinville, Kan.), Kylie Mouser (FR/Wichita, Kan.) and Gaona placed ninth with a time of 4:25.18.

In the triple jump, Kamal Murphy (FR/Hollywood, Fla.) finished 12th with a best jump of 11.71m.

Nicole Holaday (JR/Gove, Kan.) placed 17th in the weight throw with a best throw of 12.76m.

Hunter Pane placed 20th in the shot with a toss of 12.38m and was 25th in the weight throw with a best mark of 11.43m.

In the preliminaries of the 60m, Nigel Davis (SR/Los Angeles, Calif.) placed 21st with a time of 7.154 seconds and Eugene Dixon was just two-thousandths of a second behind in 22nd place with a time 7.156.

In the 600-yard run, Kylie Mouser placed 21st with a time of 1:40.71.

Kamal Murphy placed 22nd in the 60m hurdles with a time of 9.89 seconds.

In the men's 600-yard run, Ty Davidson (FR/Lakin, Kan.) placed 24th in 1:19.57, Conner LaRosa (FR/Herington, Kan.) was 29th in 1:20.91, Darius Archuleta (FR/Liberal, Kan.) was 31st in 1:22.01, and Trey Bradley (SO/Colby, Kan.) was 35th in 1:25.82.

In the 400m, Tamayia Washington (FR/Manhattan, Kan.) finished 27th with a time of 62.92 seconds.  

In the 800m, Regan Rhodes placed 31st with a time of 2:35.24, Mouser was 32nd in 2:35.42, and Savannah Pilsner (FR/Columbus, Texas) finished 43rd with a time of 2:56.87.

Tiffany Pace (FR/Ferris, Texas) placed 32nd in the 60m preliminaries with a time of 8.41 seconds.

In the 200m, Washington was 61st with a time of 27.88, and Pace was 72nd in 28.78.

In the 3000m, Giovanni Rios (FR/Temecula, Calif.) finished in 42nd with a time of 9:47.56 and Cisco Alvarez (FR/Colorado Springs, Colo.) was 45th in 9:55.77.

Ty Davidson was 45th in the 800m with a time of 2:05.76.

In the men's 200m Nigel Davis was 48th in 22.97, and Kalil Murphy was 68th in 23.42.

Rios placed 48th in the mile with a time of 4:50.57.

The Coyotes return to action this weekend at the Northwest Missouri State Open in Maryville on Friday and Saturday.
