Two people were injured in a three-vehicle pileup in south-central Salina Monday morning.
Jerome James, 42, of Marion, was northbound on S. Ninth Street when the 2022 Ford F250 pickup he was driving struck a westbound 2015 Honda CRV driven by Hugh Cairns, 89, of Salina, at the intersection with W. Republic Avenue, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. The impact of the collision sent the CRV into a southbound 2015 Jeep Compass driven by Bianca Sanchez, 22, of Frisco, Texas.
James told police that he thought he had a green light, however, it was determined that Cairns had the green light, Forrester said.
An 83-year-old woman passenger in the CRV suffered broken ribs and was transported by EMS to Salina Regional Health Center. Additionally, Sanchez was evaluated by EMS, but went to the hospital on her own, Forrester said.
Both the pickup and the Compass sustained front-end damaged and the CRV sustain damage nearly all the way around, Forrester said. All three vehicles were towed from the scene.
Forrester said James was cited for inattentive driving.
