Obituary | Barbara Jean Wing of Minneapolis, Kansas | Wilson Family Funeral Home

April 14, 1936 - May 15, 2021

Barbara Jean Wing, 85, Minneapolis, was born April 14, 1936 in Ogden, UT to Nestor and Edna (Daniel) Liddell.  She passed away Saturday, May 15, 2021.

When Barbara was six, the family moved to Seattle.  She graduated from Ballard High School and then attended Washington Beauty School and became a licensed cosmetologist in 1955.

She married Gary Wing on August 9, 1962.  Gary has always said she is his souvenir from the Seattle’s World’s Fair.  They moved to McPherson and in 1964 they moved to Denver.  Barbara went back to beauty school to become a cosmetology instructor and she taught at the Aurora Tech Center and the Warren Center in Golden, CO.  In 1976, the family moved to Minneapolis where Gary took over the family farm and she opened a beauty shop in their home.  Barbara loved working with her clients – she retired in 2001.

She was a member of Beta Sigma Pi since 1963 and she was a past president and treasurer of the Salina Cosmetology Affiliate.  She also belonged to the Minneapolis Ladies Golf Association for many years.

Barbara and Gary always enjoyed doing things together.  They camped, boated, and jet skied.  She traveled with Gary to his motorcycle competitions and she would explore the locations – she called it commercial exploring – shopping!  She was an avid Denver Broncos fan with many earrings and shirts.  They danced country western and took and taught classes.  Barbara also knitted and crocheted.  She enjoyed her great group of ladies that would meet at the Golden Wheel Senior Center.

Survivors are her husband Gary; sons Scott and his wife Karin of Mead, CO and Mitch of Minneapolis; sister Pat Isaacson of Escondido, CA; and two grandchildren, Angie and Travis both of Colorado Springs, CO.

Visitation will be from 2:00 P.M. to 6:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 19 at Wilson Family Funeral Home, Minneapolis, where the family will receive friends from 4:00 to 5:30 p.m.  Graveside services will be at 1:00 p.m., Thursday, May 20 at Highland Cemetery, Minneapolis.  Barbara was a strong advocate for the National Ovarian Coalition.  Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer-related deaths of women.  Memorials may be made to the National Ovarian Coalition or the Tammy Walker Cancer Center and may be left in care of Wilson Family Funeral Home, P.O. Box 166, Minneapolis, KS 67467.
