WICHITA, Kan. — The Wichita Wind Surge (28-37) fell 7-5 to the Frisco RoughRiders (32-33) in game two of a six-game series Wednesday night at Equity Bank Park despite a three-RBI performance from Graham Brown.
Brown led the way offensively, recording his sixth multi-hit performance of the season while driving in three runs and launching his fifth home run of the year. Kyle DeBarge also collected two hits in the loss, while Poncho Ruiz recorded a hit in his first start since being activated from the 60-day injured list.
On the mound, Preston Johnson allowed two runs over four innings in his start, while Mitch Mueller and Yehizon Sanchez logged scoreless appearances out of the bullpen.
THE RUNDOWN
The Wind Surge opened the scoring in the bottom of the first, using two singles and a walk to load the bases before another walk forced home a run for a 1-0 lead.
Johnson started on the mound for Wichita and was sharp through his first three innings, allowing just one hit while striking out two.
Frisco answered in the top of the fourth, scoring twice on three consecutive two-out hits to take a 2-1 lead.
Wichita evened the score in the bottom half when Brown led off the inning with a solo homer, his fifth of the season, to make it 2-2.
The RoughRiders regained the lead in the top of the fifth, using a walk and a single to put runners in scoring position before an RBI single up the middle plated a run. Frisco added three more runs in the inning, scoring on a steal of home and a two-run single to take a 6-2 lead.
Frisco added another run in the sixth, using two singles to put runners on the corners before scoring on a wild pitch to extend its advantage to 7-2.
The Surge trimmed the deficit in the bottom of the eighth when Brown lined a two-run double to give him three RBIs on the night. Quinn McDaniel followed with an RBI single to cut the deficit to 7-5 heading into the ninth.
Wichita could not complete the comeback in the final frame, falling 7-5 as the series evened at one game apiece.
