Bethany College approaching upcoming semester differently

LINDSBORG -- To prepare for the upcoming fall semester, Bethany College has created two coronavirus teams.

One team of faculty members was created to focus on academics. They have worked to address issues such as classroom expectations, accommodations, and safety within classroom spaces. The other team has worked on the implementation of safety precautions for every aspect of campus life beyond the classroom.

There are many unknowns in regards to the coronavirus pandemic, so both teams have leaned heavily on the resources available to make appropriate decisions for Bethany College, including local health officials. Organizations the teams have used as resources in decision include: Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), Kansas Department of Health and Environment (KDHE), McPherson County Health Department (MCHD), American College Health Association (ACHA), and many others.

Some of the changes that have been implemented are:

Employees and visitors are required to complete a health screen prior to coming on campus. You can find the health screen at www.bethanylb.edu/healthscreen.

Masks will be required by anyone on campus, as will social distancing. We request that business be conducted remotely by email and/or phone whenever possible.

The fall semester will begin on August 17 and will end after finals on Nov. 24. To accommodate this change in the academic calendar fall break has been cancelled. The adjustment to the semester dates was made in hopes to mitigate the increase in cases that are predicted during the influenza season.

To prevent an influx of students arriving at the same time on campus, students will move back at an assigned date and time. Everyone will be subject to a health screening upon arrival.

Students travelling from areas required to quarantine per KDHE guidelines will be required to complete the recommended 14 day quarantine on campus.
