Obituary for Leonard P. Royer | Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home

January 5, 1930 ~ January 12, 2022 (age 92)

Leonard P. “Pee Wee” Royer, the son of Glenn Earl Royer and Viola Marie “Dot” (Pritts) Royer, was born January 5, 1930 in Daykin, NE and passed away on January 12, 2022 at the age of 92 years, 7 days.

Leonard grew up in Daykin and Davenport, Nebraska and later moved with his family at an early age to Republic, Kansas. He graduated from Republic High School in 1948.

Following his schooling, he began work at Jim Lewis Motors in Belleville, Kansas as a mechanic. He attended and graduated from Refrigeration Trade School in Dayton, Ohio. He returned to Jim Lewis Motors to repair and service car air conditioners. Leonard then began work on Barth and Finch Appliance, later Barth Appliance as an appliance repairman. In 1967, he and his wife Betty, established Leonard’s Appliance, which he owned and operated until his retirement in 2013.  

On July 4, 1950, he was united in marriage to Betty Joanne Wood and to this union was born, Timothy L. and Tonya M.

Leonard was a member of the Belleville Lions’ Club; a member/volunteer for the Belleville Fire Department for 40 years, the Belleville Eagle’s, Belleville Elk’s Club, and a volunteer at the Republic County Historical Society Museum. He was active in the Chamber of Commerce for many years. He loved the group gambling trips, and working on Tim’s farm.

Leonard was preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Tonya Marie in 1973; his wife Betty Royer in 2011, and brother Robert Dean Royer.

He is survived by one son, Tim Royer of Belleville, Kansas; many nieces and nephews, other relatives, and many friends.

Cremation was selected and Memorial Services will be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, January 22, 2022 at the Bachelor-Surber Funeral Home with PMA Al Urich, officiating.

Private inurnment will be at the Grace Hill Cemetery, rural Belleville, KS, at a later date. 

Friends may call to sign the register book from 1 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, January 21, 2022 at the funeral home with the family greeting friends from 5 p.m. until 7 p.m..

Memorials are suggested to the Leonard Royer Memorial Fund established at Astra Bank.
