Police are looking for the person who led officers on a high-speed chase through parts of Salina Wednesday evening.

Salina Police Sergeant Kyle Tonniges said this morning that on Wednesday at approximately 11:30 p.m. an officer observed a 1995 GMC Jimmy acting suspiciously in the area near Sheridan and Crawford Street.

"It looked like this vehicle was trying to evade him," Tonniges said. "Taking a lot of turns kind of seems suspicious to the officer. At one point, the officer lost sight of it. When the officer found the vehicle again, it was driving with no headlights on."

Before the officer could perform a traffic stop, the suspect vehicle sped off.

"The vehicle pursuit traveled through the neighborhoods south of Crawford Street and went through neighborhoods to the east of Crawford, and then made its way to Ohio Street," Tonniges said.

The pursuit led officers southbound on Ohio Street where speeds reached 80 mph. Tonniges said the pursuit continued out of town on S. Ohio Street until the road turned to gravel.

"It was a little bit difficult for the officer to continue to follow the vehicle safely because of the dust," Tonniges said.

No arrests were made, but police have the name of suspect in this case.
