I-70 traffic stop west of Salina leads to drug bust, Alabama man's arrest

A Montgomery, Ala., man was arrested Thursday afternoon on Interstate 70 west of Salina after more than 27 pounds of marijuana and marijuana products were found in the rental vehicle he was driving.

Saline County Sheriff's Captain Jim Hughes said this morning that a deputy stopped an eastbound 2021 Chrysler Voyager near milepost 246 on I-70 at approximately 2:46 p.m. Thursday for a traffic infraction. During the stop, the deputy detected the odor of burnt marijuana.

During a search of the vehicle, the deputy located 18 packages of raw marijuana weighing a total of 15.45 pounds. Additionally, 11.6 pounds of THC wax and THC edibles were located in the vehicle, Hughes said.

A set of brass knuckles also was found near the driver's seat, he said.

The driver of the rental vehicle, Willie Boswell, 49, of Montgomery, Ala., was arrested on the following requested charges, Hughes said.

●Possession of marijuana with intent to distribute

●Possession of drug paraphernalia

●Criminal use of a weapon

●Failure to signal a lane change

Four other people who also were in the vehicle were not arrested, Hughes said.
