Kansas Wesleyan men's tennis faced the Evangel University Valor for the first time in Kansas Conference play and the Coyotes came away with a 7-0 win on Saturday at Salina Tennis Center.
Wesleyan would win two of the three doubles matches to win the doubles point. Bryce Ware (SO/Amarillo, Texas) and Garrison Wright (SO/Maize, Kan.) beat Tomas Villamil and Emilio Chavarria 6-0; and Alex Sherer (SO/Rossville, Kan.) and Grayson Wright (FR/Maize, Kan.) beat Gabriel Leal and James McIlwrath 7-5.
Evangel won the No. 3 doubles as Milosh Stamatov and Jarrett Teel beat Adam Hanson (FR/Edmond, Okla.) and Luke Craft (SO/Manhattan, Kan.) 7-5.
Wesleyan swept the singles flights, including a little excitement at No. 6 singles as Jack Hanson (FR/Edmond, Okla.) beat Stamatov. After dropping the first set 6-2, Hanson bounced back and won the second set 6-2, forcing a third set. Hanson was down 9-6 in the super tiebreaker, and rallied back to win it 11-9 to seal the match in his favor.
In the other singles matches Ware beat Chavarria 6-0, 6-1; Sherer beat Leal 6-3, 6-4; Garrison Wright beat McIlwrath 4-6, 6-1, 6-3; Adam Hanson beat Villamil 6-0, 6-1; and Phelps beat Teel 6-2, 6-3.
The Coyotes play at Bethany on Thursday in their next conference match.
