Kansas Wesleyan flag football picked up its first KCAC win of the season in dominating fashion, rolling to a 60-0 win over the Bethel Threshers on Wednesday night at JRI Stadium at the Graves Family Sports Complex.

The teams agreed to end the game late in the third quarter due to the inclement weather that had moved into the area.

The Coyotes held Bethel to 47 yards of total offense in the game, while racking up 231 yards, 143 through the air and 88 on the ground.

A 34-yard run by Brianna Hernandez-Silva (SR/Las Vegas, Nev.) down to the Bethel 2 set up the first Coyote score as Hernandez-Silva found Angel Almaraz (FR/Las Vegas, Nev.) from two yards out putting the Coyotes up 7-0 with 8:39 left in the first.

Wesleyan's next drive only needed one play as Hernandez-Silva broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run to make it 14-0 with 5:18 to go.

Angel Roman (SO/Jacksonville, Fla.) caught a 3-yard touchdown pass from Hernandez-Silva on the next KWU drive, but the PAT1 would fail making it 20-0 with 1:17 left in the first.

Ansdiane Rabano (FR/Jersey City, N.J.) sacked Bethel's quarterback Kylah Rome to turn the ball over on downs on Bethel's next drive.

The Coyotes scored again on the next drive. Facing a 2nd-and-1 at the Bethel 21, Hernandez-Silva found some daylight, rushing 13 yards before lateralling to Ciaran DuCuir to finish off the play for the score from eight yards out with 8:52 left in the half.

After another stalled Bethel drive, KWU scored again, this time Hernandez-Silva lateralling to Jazmine Whitfield (FR/Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) for a 4-yard run making it 33-0 with nine seconds left in the half.

KWU led 33-0 at the break.

Bethel started with the ball in the second half, but Lexi Marquez (SO/Las Vegas, Nev.) would pick off a Jessie McMichael pass at the Bethel 13, and return it to the 9, where the Coyotes only needed one play for Hernandez-Silva to find Whitfield for a touchdown.

Nickayla Howard (SO/Las Vegas, Nev.) picked off a Bethel pass on the next drive and this time Hernandez-Silva found Roman again, this time from 24 yards out to make it 46-0 with 10:08 left in the third.

Marquez followed with a 17-yard Pick-6 to put the Coyotes up 53-0 with 9:58 left.

For a fourth straight drive, the Coyote defense came up with an interception, this time Alexa Mansur (SO/Henderson, Nev.) picking it off and taking it to the house from 35 yards out making it 60-0.

Bethel had one last drive, but was forced to punt, and the teams agreed to end the game before the next KWU drive.

Hernandez-Silva was 15 of 18 passing for 143 yards and four touchdowns, and added 88 yards rushing on six carries and a touchdown. Vanessa Towne (SO/Missouri City, Texas) had three catches for 38 yards to lead the KWU receivers, while Roman had three catches for 33 yards and two scores. Eight different players had receptions.

Defensively, Lexi Marquez had two interceptions, and Howard and Mansur added one each. Alexis Jimenez (SO/Miami, Fla.) led the Coyotes with five flag pulls and had a sack. Rabano had three flag pulls, all for sacks.

The Coyotes are back in action on Saturday with three games in Hesston against Fort Scott, Florida Gateway and Hesston. The Coyotes then head to Midland next Wednesday before returning home on March 18 against Saint Mary.
