A man was arrested for setting a truck on fire in a north Salina neighborhood.
According to the Salina Police Department (SPD) on Thursday at around 9:45 am, an officer on patrol in the area of the 700 block of N. 9th observed a 1995 Dodge Ram 2500 truck parked in a driveway of what seemed to have a fire underneath the vehicle.
The officer then discovered 42-year old, David Garrett in the driveway during the fire. Garrett then left the scene and shortly after, first responders arrived to the scene and extinguished the fire.
After the fire was extinguished, Garrett was then seen around the area walking with gas cans. Shortly after, another report was made that the same truck was fully engulfed in flames.
First responders then arrived to the scene to extinguished the fire and law enforcement located Garrett running away.
An on foot pursuit ensued and Garrett was taken into custody.
He was booked into the Saline County Jail for the requested charges of:
Criminal Use of explosives, Felony Interference with Law Enforcement, Endangerment (6), Maintaining a Public Nuisance, Motor Vehicle Abandoned on a public highway (street) and Opening/burning prohibited.
According to SPD, the motor vehicle abandoned on a public highway and maintaining a public nuisance charges were placed because the truck rolled onto the street in the area from the driveway while it was engulfed, as this could have caused harm to the public.
No reports of any injuries were made.
