A local man was arrested after a chase through the eastern part of Salina early this morning.
At approximately 1:18 a.m. Friday, an officer observed a 2000 Volvo fail to stop at a stop sign at the intersection of Russell Avenue and Roach Street, Salina Police Captain Gary Hanus reported this morning.
The officer attempted to stop the vehicle in the 500 block of Max Avenue, but the Volvo failed to stop. The officer followed the Volvo with the patrol vehicle's emergency warning devices activated, Hanus noted.
The Volvo drove north to E. Crawford and then turned east. The car continued outside the city limits and turned north on S. Simpson Road, at which point, the Volvo became inoperable, Hanus reported.

The driver, identified as Mason J. Barnes, 21, of Salina, was taken into custody in the 500 block of S. Simpson Road. A minor passenger was found to be in the Volvo as well.
Barnes, who had an active felony warrant for probation violation, also was arrested on the following requested charges, according to Hanus.
