The SES Lady Trojan basketball team (5-5) will close out its Sterling Invitational run today in the fifth place game against the Kingman Eagles (1-6) at 3:00.
Because the third tournament tiebreaker is defensive points allowed, Scott City will face Hugoton in the third place game, despite losing to Sterling by 30 on day one, leaving SES in the fifth place game.
Kingman lost both of its matchups to reach this point, falling to Smoky Valley 51-37 and to Hugoton 64-28.
Southeast got here with a win over Hutch Trinity and a narrow loss to the Sterling last night, a game that saw them throw everything they had at the undefeated Black Bears.
“The turnaround time is a bit of a concern for us tonight,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “We’ve just got to put our heads down and play through it and then we can get a rest in on Sunday.”
While Southeast will be tired for sure, Kingman presents a great opportunity for the Lady Trojans to finish the invitational with a win, and an above .500 record if they can get the offense rolling.
“We need to be sound defensively which we’re capable of doing,” Smith said. “We also need to run our offense and shoot the ball better, if we do that we should win this game pretty easily, if not it will be competitive.”
Tip off for this game is scheduled for 3:00 at Sterling High School, and can be heard on KINA (910 AM or 107.5 FM).
