The Southeast of Saline Lady Trojans (10-5) will host Beloit (2-7) in part two of the Trojan War tonight at 6pm.
SES has won each of their last five games, and have held those opponents to less than 25 points per game on average.
“Our defense has won the last couple of games for us, especially since we’re not shooting the ball real well right now,” Trojan head coach Shauna Smith said. “We’ve played tough defense and actually out-rebounded our opponents in these games which has been big for us, now we just need to score some buckets.”
Offensively during that same stretch, Southeast has averaged just 40 points per game, and has struggled to find consistency from the floor.
“Tonight our first priority is just getting some shots to fall,” Smith said. “We’re missing from everywhere, it’s not just the three point line, and we can’t keep winning games in the 30s and 40s.”
Beloit comes into this game having just won their first two games of the season. The Lady Trojans in orange were 0-7 prior to back-to-back wins over 1-11 Republic County.
SES won the first contest between these two handily, picking up a 60-30 victory on the road, the teams highest scoring performance of the season.
While that win was certainly a comfortable one, Coach Smith noted that Beloit is not an opponent to look past. Especially with Porsche Cooper, who averages a double-double, patrolling the paint.
“The first time we played Beloit they hadn’t played in very many games so we can’t let that game mean too much,” she said. “They have a good post player inside who has been there since her freshman year that can really hurt us.”
Tip off between the Lady Trojan teams is scheduled for 6pm at Southeast of Saline High School. As always, Eagle Radio is the home for SES basketball, and games can be heard on KINA (910 AM or 107.5 FM).
