Two portable toilets were destroyed in a fire at Bill Burke Park Monday night.

A witness who lives nearby reported the fire at approximately 10:30 p.m. Monday, Salina Police Captain Paul Forrester said this morning. 

Two PolyJohn portable toilets that were between fields seven and eight at Bill Burke Park, 1501 E. Crawford, were destroyed, he said. The portable toilets belonged to Salina Septic Service, 200 E. Pacific.

The incident is being investigated as arson, Forrester said.

Officials believe that gasoline or fireworks ignited inside the portable toilets may be responsible for the fire, he said.
