Kipp outdoor siren, bonds, bid awards on county agenda

Bid awards, an outdoor warning siren, health issues, bonds, and a mask mandate review are among the items on the Saline County Commission agenda for Tuesday.

The commission meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 West Ash Street. A time for public comment is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting.

Commissioners are being asked to issue the following two proclamations.

●Proclaim the month of September as National Recovery Month.

●Proclaim 2020 as the 19th Amendment Centennial Commemoration.

Saline County Emergency Management, on behalf of Rural Fire District No. 1 (RFD 1) is asking permission to purchase an outdoor warning siren system for Kipp.

According to information in the commission meeting packet, a Dane Hansen Foundation grant of $10,000 has been awarded for the project. Additionally, Great Plains Manufacturing, which has a facility in Kipp, donated $12,500 toward the project, the county information noted.

The siren would be located at the RFD 1 station in Kipp and would provide coverage for 5,000 feet, including the town of Kipp, and 145 structures in the area, according to the county information.

Other items on the county agenda for Tuesday include the following.

●Consider a bid award request for 2020 aggregate shoulder construction -- Justin Mader, county engineer

●Consider a request for a transmission rebuild -- Darren Fishel, road and bridge administrator

●Consider a bid award for dump truck -- Fishel

●Consider accepting Year Two of a three-year Overdose Data to Action Grant -- Jason Tiller, health department director

●Consider accepting a $134,330 Epidemiology and Laboratory Capacity grant -- Tiller

●Review of the county mask mandate -- Tiller

●Conduct a public hearing for Educational Facilities Revenue Bonds for Kansas Wesleyan University with a vote on issuing the bonds to follow.

●Conduct a public hearing for Crestwood redemption of industrial revenue bonds with a vote on the redemption to follow -- Phillip Smith-Hanes, county administrator

●Hear a health department update from Tiller

●Hear Smith-Hanes' weekly update
