Early Saturday morning, Salina Police Department (SPD) officers arrested a woman following a low-speed chase involving a U-Haul truck that had struck a parked vehicle and fled the scene.
According to SPD Cpt. James Feldman, at around 12:45 a.m. on October 5 officers received a report that a U-Haul truck had backed into a parked vehicle and left the scene in the 2130 block of East Crawford Street.
"An officer was going westbound on Crawford. That officer observed a U-Haul truck driving west on Crawford at Ohio," Feldman said."At first, the truck signaled as if it would pull over but continued driving at speeds of about 35 miles per hour."
SPD officers followed the U-Haul for approximately 5 minutes.
The U-Haul finally stopped in the 800 block of Cedar Street. Police arrested the driver, identified as 39-year-old Denotra Smith of Salina. Smith was taken into custody for failure to flee and eluding, failure to stop, and driving with a suspended license.
No injuries were reported during the incident, and there were no signs that alcohol or drugs were involved.
