Florine June (Cowing) Terry, 92, passed away Saturday, May 1, 2021 at the Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation in Wakefield, Kansas where she had lived for the last several years. Florine (Flossy) was born in Clay Center, KS on November 2, 1928 to Gertrude (Pomeranz) and Roy Cowing. The oldest of seven children, Florine helped care for and raise her younger siblings after her father passed away at a young age. She graduated Clay Center High School in 1946.
At 16, Florine met the love of her life, Douglas Brannan, while on leave from the military. He was walking into the post office in Clay Center as she was walking out. Douglas and Florine married in 1945, in Morganville, KS and had two sons, William Brannan and Michael Brannan shortly after. While enlisted in the service they were stationed numerous places - Fort Polk, LA, Germany, Fort Carson, Colorado, Hawaii, Dodge City and Fort Riley where Douglas retired from the military and they moved home for good to Clay Center. Florine and Douglas divorced, and she met Sherman Terry, Clay Center.
Florine was an extremely talented musician who loved to play ukulele, banjo and sing harmony in a band, "Trickle & Terry." Florine also had a great love for sewing, crocheting, and knitting. She made her granddaughter's wedding reception outfit and made her other granddaughter's prom dress from scratch without a pattern.
Florine was preceded in death by her parents; an infant brother Gary; brothers Duane, Lowell, Lewis and Donald; her daughter-in-law Linda Brannan and companion Sherman Terry.
Florine leaves behind her children William Brannan, Seneca; Michael Brannan, Clay Center; granddaughters Misty (Larry) Gawith, El Dorado; Wendy (Tom) Lierz, Seneca; grea- grandchildren Payton Gawith, Manhattan; Allison June Gawith, El Dorado; Hunter and Gracyn Lierz, Seneca; sister Bonnie Pritchett, Wichita. She also leaves behind the family she grew to know and love at the Wakefield Care and Rehabilitation in Wakefield, who took such good care of her.
Per Florine’s wishes she will be cremated, and a graveside memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 8, 2021 at the Zion Lutheran Cemetery, Clay County, KS.
