Fresh off of a big 55-30 win over the Minneapolis Lions, the SES Lady Trojans (3-3) will hit the road to face the Clay Center Tigers (4-0) tonight.
Southeast of Saline has a two game win streak of their own to defend, but will be challenged by a very good Tiger team tonight.
“Clay Center will be one of the top teams that we play this year,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “They have a good inside presence and we’ll have to adjust to that. I think as long as we can handle their ball pressure and don’t get rushed into bad shots we’ll be okay.”
The tallest task for the Trojans in this game will be containing 6-1 Tiger center Clara Edwards, who averaged 20 points and 7 rebounds per game.
Offensively, Southeast will need to continue to look for longer possessions and better shots, an improvement that allowed them to ride into the new year with a big win.
This will be made difficult by a Tiger team that loves to use its athletic guards in a relentless full court press.
“We’re going to have to run our offense well and take really good shots tonight,” Smith said. “We know we can get good looks but we really want to focus on getting great shots.”
Despite the intimidating inside presence and 4-0 record of Clay Center, the Lady Trojans feel up to the challenge, and are excited for another chance to take down a big opponent.
“We’re always ready to play, and I really think that any night we can beat any of these really good teams.”
Tip off is scheduled for 6pm at Clay Center High School and as always, games can be heard on KINA (910 AM or 107.5 FM) or streamed on Salina Post courtesy of Comfort Heating and Air.
