The Southeast of Saline girls’ basketball team will look to wrap up their second consecutive league title as they return home to take on the Ellsworth Bearcats.

The Lady Trojans got the better of Ellsworth 60-34 in late January thanks to an even scoring spread throughout the lineup.

“We moved the ball really well and shot it from the outside well in that game,” SES head coach Shauna Smith said. “I thought it was a great overall team win with everyone contributing.”

At 15-3 and 8-0 in league play, the Lady Trojans are just one win away from securing sole possession of the NCAA crown, and two wins away from finishing back-to-back undefeated seasons against the league.

Southeast was ranked #8 in Class 3A last week and will once again provide a lot of matchup challenges to the 6-10 Lady Bearcats.

SES is fresh off two gritty, low-scoring wins, but would like to get the scoring production back up in their two remaining contests before sub-state.

“I think we need to get out and push the ball,” Smith said. “We need to go back to not just taking the first open look we get and get a great look.”

On the defensive side of things, the Lady Trojans will need to keep the pressure on, something they did a great job in the first meeting forcing 21 turnovers.

“We have to do a good job helping with the post and making them earn baskets,” she said.

In addition to all of the other accolades on the table tonight, the Trojans will also be looking to extend their seven-game win streak tonight.

Tip-off between SES and Ellsworth is set for 6 pm at Southeast of Saline high school with the boy’s game to follow at 7.

As always both games can be heard on KINA (910 AM or 107.5 FM) courtesy of Eagle Radio.
