County commissioners to consider grants, an equipment sale

Grants, a rural fire district issue, and three executive sessions are among the items on the Saline County Commission agenda for Tuesday.

The commission meeting is scheduled to begin at 9 a.m. Tuesday in room 107 of the City-County Building, 300 W. Ash Street. A time for public comment is scheduled near the beginning of the meeting.

Items on the agenda include the following.

●Consider an American Rescue Plan Act grant funding request in the amount of $1,640,000 from the Salina Airport Authority. The grant would allow the airport authority to "contract with SkyWest Airlines for a United Airlines branded flight between Salina and Houston.

●Consider a request from the Department of Senior Services to accept a $4,500 grant from the Salina Area United way to provide OCCK transportation passes to homebound seniors.

●Consider approving a request from Rural Fire District No. 5 to sell its 1995 Freightliner 2000 gallon tanker to Rural Fire District No. 3 for $22,000. Rural Fire District No. 5 has purchased a new pumper/tanker.

●Consider approving a request for a memorandum of understanding with surrounding public safety agencies to program Saline County emergency communicatin system radio channels (talkgroups) into those agencies' radios. Saline County already has permission from the other agencies to program their radio channels into Saline County radios, according to information from the county commission meeting packet.

●Hear County Administrator Phillip Smith-Hanes's weekly update.

Additionally, commissioners are scheduled to meet in three executive sessions, one for employer/employee negotiations and two for non-elected personnel.
